Home Office Furniture

Filed under: Uncategorized, Home — bruce @ 12:31 am

For those who work out of their homes, home office furniture creates an atmosphere for focus, organization and space for the computer and any media necessary for your job. However, the most critical piece is the home office chair.

If you’re spending hours sitting in the same home office chair, it needs to be comfortable, supportive and sized right for your frame. You can first do your shopping online to find out what’s available. Then, even if you plan to eventually order online, you should go to stores and actually sit in some chairs. Furniture shopping, whether for couches or that flat panel tv stand, requires more than visual input but personal perspective.

When trying out the chairs, remember that comfort doesn’t always mean it’s ergonomically designed for the long lasting healthy design you want for the home office chair. Check for lumbar support that is either adjustable or matches your size frame. Adjustable height is a must as sitting at the correct height for your desk and computer play an important part in long-term comfort.

Home office furniture should be functional and as attractive as necessary for you to enjoy working several hours each day in your home office.

Getting in Shape for Spring

Filed under: Sports — bruce @ 5:37 pm

As winter loosens its choke hold on the country, bleary men and women are beginning to see glimmers of hope that spring time is not far off. And while they’re more than happy to see glacial snow drifts melting away on city streets, many folks might not be too happy to see the toll that winter has taken on their bodies.

The winter of 2010-2011 was especially cold and snowy in many parts of the country, especially the East Coast. Blizzard after blizzard made getting outside for some physical activity challenging at best. Unless you lived in a building with commercial fitness equipment, you probably weren’t getting much exercise. And if that’s the case, you’re probably hiding a fair amount of flab underneath those bulky winter clothes. Fortunately, it’s not too late to get back in shape before warm weather is back for an extended stay.

The best way of getting started on your pre-spring exercise plan is to just dive in feet first. If you have a gym membership, but have been neglecting it because of the weather, go back there right away and resume your old routine. While there’s plenty of benefit to be had from exercising at home, there’s really no substitute for the quality workout you get from commercial exercise equipment you’ll find at the gym.

If you’ve hit a plateau with your regular workout, it may be time to hire out a personal trainer for a few sessions to get back on track. Mixing up your fitness routine is the best way of whipping your body back into shape.

And while a gym workout is one of the best workouts, gym memberships aren’t for everyone. Exercising at home takes a little more effort, but can definitely yield results. Putting together a home gym is not hard, but it can get expensive. Gym equipment from companies like Body Solid Fitness Equipment and Nautilus can be expensive but is worth the price. Unlike store brands, name brand gym equipment is built to withstand the rigors of repeated use.

Of course any fitness routine will need to be augmented by sensible eating habits. There’s no better time than now to cut back on junk food and soda pop.

Once you’re back in the fitness groove, you’ll be surprised at how quickly that winter fat starts burning off your puffy gut. If you get started right away, you’ll be certain to look great in that Spring Break swim suit.

Anniversary Gift Ideas

Filed under: Family — bruce @ 5:17 pm

The divorce rate for first marriages in the United States is currently hovering at around 41 percent and for all marriages, it’s closer to 50 percent. Given these astonishing statistics, it’s no surprise that wedding anniversary celebrations are something of a big event these days.

Five and ten year anniversary celebrations usually involve a major gift from the husband to the wife. For men who don’t usually do much shopping, this can be a big challenge. If you’ve been married long enough to celebrate a big anniversary, you also probably know better than to run into Target and pick out the first cubic zirconia earring set you see. A big anniversary calls for a well thought out, personalized gift that comes from the heart.

If you’re not sure what type of jewelry your spouse likes or wants, start out by looking at the jewelry they’ve already got. Does she have a lot of nice earrings, but not a single cubic zirconia necklace? You can’t go wrong purchasing jewelry that compliments pieces she already owns.

Don’t be shy about seeking assistance from friends and family members if you’re not sure what pieces of jewelry she likes, or what pieces go together. This is exactly the kind of thing that sisters, mothers and mother in laws live for.

One jewelry style that’s very popular these days is the charm bracelet. This updated take on the classic piece of little girl jewelry is an ideal way to personalize your gift giving. Most jewelry stores have a large selection of charm bracelets charms that can be used to commemorate any number of life events. Common charms include wedding rings, baby pacifiers, and geographical landmarks (to commemorate a honeymoon). It would be a pretty unusual woman who was not touched by a gift as thoughtful as this.

Jewelry is really the ideal anniversary gift, even if you’ve already made plans to take a vacation to commemorate the date. There’s nothing wrong with surprising your spouse with a gift of jewelry while you’re on vacation. Consider having the gift mailed ahead so that the front desk clerk at the hotel can hand her the package when upon arrival.

Keeping a marriage together is a lot of work and that makes anniversaries all the more special. If you’ve made it five, ten, or even twenty years, reward yourself and your spouse with a nice piece of jewelry and a vacation.

Keep Your Home Warm

Filed under: Home — bruce @ 4:24 pm

When a wood burning stove or fireplace is used to provide heat to a home or building, it can become very laborious to split logs manually. The MTD log splitters that are on the market today make easy work of this task so that you can put that ax down forever. These log splitters are safe and easy to use. There are several MTD log splitters available. The LS1500E is the ideal size for the homeowner wishing to split his/her own firewood as it features a 5 ton splitting force and can split logs up to 20.5 inches in length. There are numerous gas log splitters on the market that can operate in either vertical or horizontal positions and which come with iron splitting wedges. These log splitters have the capability to quickly and efficiently split large volumes of logs up to 63 inches in length and can be used on knotty woods such as oak.

There are many products on the market that can be used to make construction areas warm. Forced air kerosene heaters are perfect for use at construction sites as they provide a way to keep areas warm so that work can be done comfortably. These heaters are also call salamander or torpedo heaters and are sometimes used in industrial settings. The forced air kerosene heaters designed to be used in industrial settings can produce very high heat temperatures and need to have a continuous source of kerosene so that the high temperatures can be maintained.

Best Youth Sports for Your Child

Filed under: Sports — bruce @ 3:24 pm

It has been estimated that as many as twenty five percent of American children under the age of nineteen are currently obese. If you’re not up to date on exactly what the term “obese” means, most doctors define obesity as someone who is twenty percent over their ideal weight. When you factor in the number of children who are also, merely, overweight, that number skyrockets up to something more like thirty four percent of all American children. Obviously, obesity is major health problem in the United States.

There are two ways to combat this crisis, change our children’s eating habits; and get them outside, off the couch, and exercising. One of the best ways to get children exercising is by getting them involved in youth sports. But if your child hasn’t played organized sports before, you may be wondering which sport is best for them? Before getting them enrolled in a sport you think they’ll like, take a few minutes and think about whether that sport is a good fit for them.

Baseball is the all American sport and it’s a great choice for kids who haven’t played organized sports before. This sport doesn’t require a lot of expensive equipment, and is easy for beginners to pick up quickly. And, if you’ve got even a small yard at your home, it’s easy to set up baseball training aids such as a pitching net, or small batting cage.

Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing prep sports in the United States these days. On many campuses, lacrosse shorts and sticks are as common as baseball hats and gloves. Lacrosse is a fast paced sport that combines elements of soccer and hockey. Players wear some padding, and a helmet, but even with that protection, it’s still a pretty rough game. If your child is bothered by physical contact, this may not be the sport for them.

Lacrosse equipment, like hockey equipment, can get very expensive. But it is possible to pick up name brand gear from companies like Warrior Lacrosse, STX and Nike, on Craigslist or league equipment swaps.

Don’t be afraid to let your child try out a few different youth sports until they find one that is a good fit. If organized sports aren’t working out, encourage them to ride a bicycle, or some other solo sport. As long as your child is outside exercising, and off of the couch, you’re ahead of the game.

Finding Value for Spring Styles

Filed under: Uncategorized, Shopping — bruce @ 3:13 pm

Anyone living in the Midwest or East Coast of the United States can tell you that Winter 2010-2011 was unusually harsh. Huge swaths of the country were hammered by huge snowstorms that seemed to be lining up in the Arctic, waiting their turn to make Americans miserable. But now, spring is muscling in on winter’s icy domain and frozen piles of snow are slowly shrinking.

And with spring time comes the tried and true ritual of spring cleaning and a new spring wardrobe. The end of winter is a great time to take a step back and give your wardrobe a well needed purge. And after the purge, it’s time to update your look for the new season.

The first pieces of clothing that must go in any spring cleaning are items that don’t fit you anymore. There’s absolutely no reason to be keeping clothing that you cannot wear. If you’re trying to lose weight, that’s fantastic, but don’t keep a bunch of out of style clothes around in the hopes that they’ll fit you one day. Most casual dresses and shirts don’t stay in style long enough to be bothered with after a few seasons. So if they don’t fit any more, say goodbye.

Next up on the spring time hit list are clothes you haven’t worn in the past two years. The fact is that over the past twenty four months, you’ve had ample opportunity to wear just about everything in your closet from casual to formal and everything in between. And remember, your closet is not a museum, toss out those cheap prom dresses you’ve had since high school. You are never going to wear them again, ever.

Now comes the fun part, go out and treat yourself to some brand new clothes. Fashion dresses, casual tops and spring shoes are just starting to arrive in stores and there’s still plenty to choose from
Put together a few outfits with items that can be worn interchangeably, as well as a couple classic piece that will go with everything.

Remember to hold off on the teeny tiny shirts and shorts, it’s not summer yet. Wearing out of season clothing is one of sloppiest fashion mistakes you can possibly make.

Spring cleaning clears out both the closet and the mind. With a new wardrobe and a nice, neat place to keep it, you’ll be ready to shed those winter blues.

Jewelry with Meaning

Filed under: Family — bruce @ 12:20 pm

Since man first started wearing necklaces made of stone and shell, jewelry has always been infused with meaning. Anyone who doesn’t believe that should take a look at the millions of men and women who wear wedding rings. And while any piece of jewelry can acquire sentimental meaning, certain pieces come with a rich history already attached.

celtic bracelets and necklaces are a great example of jewelry with history and meaning. The most common symbol on these bracelets is the Celtic Knot, which symbolizes eternal life. Endless life is frequently symbolized with circular jewelry which has no beginning or end.

chakra bracelets are decorated with round, colored stones or jewels. Different colored stones have different meanings. Chakra devotees believe that wearing the stones in certain patterns enhance, or merely highlight certain personal attributes, such as joy or harmony.

These are just a few examples of jewelry that carries meaning beyond mere decorations. There are hundreds of crystals and gemstones that are meaningful to various people across the world. And what’s meaningful to one group of people may seem ludicrous to another.

The important thing is to wear the jewelry that means something to you. And if you are wearing a certain type of jewelry for decoration, try to respect its origins.

Anniversary Gifts for Jubilees

Filed under: Family — bruce @ 5:23 pm

For a 50th anniversary gift, the present that comes from the heart is the most fitting gift to give any couple as by then they do not want to collect unnecessary stuff and items around the house.  They are most probably leading a retired life and do not want the hassles of dusting and cleaning curios and mementos.  The best gifts to give would be something that is made by hand with a lot of love, caring and appreciation for what the couple really means to you.  Diamond or 60th wedding anniversary gifts are a joy to give and receive.  Diamond rings and cuff links, diamond earrings and pendants or diamond tie pins make excellent gifts for 60th weddings.   Since we all cannot give diamonds as gifts, crystal comes the closest to diamonds and make excellent gifts.

Family photos, photos of them as a young couple, group photos of all the grand and great grand children put into a silver plated frame studded with artificial diamonds makes a simple and not a very costly gift.  Family lunch parties or a family picnic if the couple is healthy enough to enjoy the outdoors would also make a memorable gift to the couple
