The Facts About Hardwood

Filed under: Home — bruce @ 2:24 am

Sure hardwood floors would look extremely good in your home and it would definitely drive up your property values, but is the price worth it?  In many cases, it is definitely worth the remodel to put in hardwood floors, but in some cases, it may be detrimental to your wallet and a hassle on your mind.

Hardwood flooring is actually rather complicated.  There is a wood floor underlayment that needs to be underneath the wood for support.  These things can get a little dicey when it comes to maintaining your floors.  If you live in an environment that is not too humid and not too dry, then you have nothing to worry about, but if you live in, for example, Florida, the flooring underlayment may begin to rot after a few years.  Then the structure of the flooring will be compromised and the floor will become uneven and less flat than it should be.

If you are in a climate such as Florida’s, you should consider using Laminate flooring underlay instead of installing hardwood floors because it will be a safer bet since it won’t have the same problems.  Plus it will be cheaper to install.

Maturing

Filed under: Fashion — bruce @ 12:05 pm

It is funny how now I am getting closer to the age of 40 I am thinking that I should start to dress more conservatively. It is silly because I do not look or act that old and really 40 is not that old (although my children would not agree!) I feel that wearing really fashionable things or shopping at certain shops is no longer acceptable. Perhaps it is a bit silly but when I am in a shop and it it is full of young girls, I feel like I should not be there. However, when I am in a shop and it is full of older ladies I feel the same way. I feel like I should be wearing Karen kane or something like that but then when I do it makes me feel old. My sister has the same problem, she likes hippy tie dye style clothing but it looks rather student like and she feels that maybe tribal women’s clothing would be more appropriate because it is a more mature version of this sort of clothing. Despite there being nothing wrong with these clothes we are both reluctant to wave goodbye to our youth this quickly and will probably be sticking to what we have for a lot longer than the age of 40.

Decent Treatment of Animals

Filed under: Uncategorized — bruce @ 1:36 pm

I’m writing this for all the vegetarians and animal lovers out there. Do you ever look at a person eating a hamburger and your heart aches for the cow that had to be brutally slaughtered to feed the overweight man sitting in the fast food joint? Does it ever occur to that guy that all those rings of fat around him are lives that could have been spared simply if he decided to eat a potato or a Boca burger instead? I’m not saying that this overweight man is evil. I’m not saying anything about him at all even if he’s wearing a leather cuff. His attitude represents the majority of the people on this planet. Most people think it is perfectly okay to eat defenseless animals because they taste good and they give nutrients to us.
But this is wrong. Especially in this country, we kill in order to waste. So much of the animals that are used to feed us go to waste in school cafeterias, restaurants, and our own homes. Did you know that the average household of four actually wastes just around five hundred dollars worth of food every year? We are simply wasting the lives of animals when we throw away the food we eat. That’s not even mentioning the many starving people around the world.
I’m not saying that leather wristbands casually worn on teenagers’ wrists are not fashionable, but a cow gave its life for the girl to have something pretty to match her shoes. Many Americans have the attitude of out of sight so out of mind. It’s extremely easy and even efficient in the United States to purchase large amounts of animals without feeling the least bit guilty because of colorful packaging and sales that have big exciting print on them.
The bottom line is, we should not be killing excessively and wasting what these animals are giving us. I’m not even saying you should give up eating meat and turning into a vegan who can’t even stand the sight of cheese. I’m just saying we as a society should kill in moderation. We should eat less meat or no meat at all when possible. There are five other parts of the pyramid that American’s ignore way too much. Our obesity problems also stem from eating too much meat. So instead of buying that leather bracelet, go for something a little less morally questionable.
